About Camp Carter

Camp Carter YMCA is located in the city of Fort Worth, Texas, and is owned and operated by the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth. Camp began as a YMCA summer camp for boys in 1947, and in the 1970’s, Camp Carter became co-ed. Camp features 350 acres, including Cottonwood Lake, a swimming pool, high and low ropes course, and an equestrian center. Other activities offered include two archery ranges, a riflery range, basketball court, athletic fields, volleyball courts, and canoeing.

Overnight Camp

Overnight Camp is for boys and girls ages 7-16. Overnight camp runs from early June through the beginning of August. Campers share living quarters with other children in their age group, learning about responsibility while developing social skills. There are both 1 and 2 week sessions available. If you are 16 or 17 we offer a fantastic teen leadership program, CIT (Counselor in Training).

Day Camp

Day Camp is for boys and girls ages 5-12. Day Camp runs from the first week of June through the middle week of August. Day Campers get to experience all the great activities of camp, (plus a cooked lunch and afternoon snack) before going home at the end of the day! We offer a different theme each week so that campers who come throughout the summer have a unique experience each week. If you are over 12 and still want to take part in Day Camp, we offer a service-oriented teen leadership program LIT (Leaders in Training).

Outdoor Education

OE Matt Reid Retreats

Outdoor Education runs throughout the school year or what we at camp call "off-season." It is an educational program designed to bring the classroom to life, teaching students about the environment, animals and plants in a fun hands on setting. We currently provide OE to all Fort Worth ISD 5th graders and other local schools.

Retreats and Rentals at Camp Carter is a year round program, used by churches, college groups, family reunions, YMCA adventure guides and many many more. Not only do we have a selection of great activities, we have a dedicated challenge course; which include a team building "lows" course, and a selection of fun "highs" activties, such as a zip line, rock wall and more. Plus Camp Carter has the sleeping capacity for 250 people with all 13 cabins providing heat and air conditioning, indoor shower and bathroom facilities. Camp also has a dining hall, recreation center, nature center, and retreat center – perfect for meetings and events.

At Camp Carter we have a dedicated Equestrain Center with over 20 horses, an indoor riding arena and some great trails. We can accomodate groups and individuals of any skill level, the best way to plan your ride is to contact our Equestrian team.
