Let us be your guide to improving your spirit, mind and body here at the Amon G. Carter, Jr. Downtown YMCA.

    • Orientation (Level 1) - a complimentary consultation with a Fitness Coach, to make the best wellness program for each individual's needs.
    • FitStart (Level 1) - complimentary 12-week program.  You will meet with a FitStart coach four times throughout the 12-week period.  Meeting 1:  discuss fitness goals and set up a cardiovascular training schedule that you will perform on your own.  MobileFit will also be introduced.  Meeting 2:  FirStart coach will add a strength training component to your already in-place cardio workout, teaching you proper use of the machine.  Meeting 3:  FitStart coach adds additional strength training components.  Meeting 4:  FitStart coach will evaluate progress being made based on input from MobileFit and will adjust any areas that are not producing a benefit for you.
    • Group Exercise Classes (Level 1, 2, 3) - variety of instructor led exercise classes designed for all levels and abilities.  Instructors will provide needed modifications in order for you to adjust your workout and improve your health.     Group Exercise Schedule-January 4, 2010 
    • Boot Camp (Level 2) - modeled after a classic mililtary-style boot camp, this class incorporates plyometrics, calisthenics, climbing, strength, core training and speed/agility drills to improve muscular and cardiovascular endurance.  fee based
    • Fitness Assessment (Level 3) - complimentary assessment of your cardiovascular capacity, body fat, muscular strength & endurance, and flexiblity performed by a fitness specialist.
    • Personal Training (Level 3) - one-on-one (personal) sessions with a fitness specialist or personal trainer.  During these sessions, the trainer will personally assist you through your cardiovascular and strenth training.  fee based
    • CrossFit (Level 3) - a constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement program.  The exercises used help improve your individuals ability to carry out activities in daily life.  This program includes complimentary orientation sessions.  It is beneficial to groups of all ages (16yrs+) and can be adjusted for all fitness levels.  Metabolic conditioning, Olympic lifting, and body-weight strength training are the main focus of CrossFit.  fee based
    • Martial Arts (Level 3) - family-style class appropriate for all ages that combines traditional Tae Kwon Do with basic self-defense principles.  Younger students will improve concentration, discipline and self-control.  Adults will improve confidence and level of fitness.  A traditional belt-ranking system is employed.  fee based

Fitness Level Descriptions

Level 1 - appropriate for members with little exercise experience or who are just returning to exercise.

Level 2 - appropriate for members who are physically able to handle a vigorous, strenuous workout.

Level 3 - these programs can be modified by the wellness staff to be appropriate for all fitness levels.
