The YMCA offers many opportunities for senior adult members to interact in meetings or social events, including potluck dinners to special trips. To find out about activities planned at your branch, check with the member services desk or look on their website.
Get your group involved at the YMCA! Some YMCAs offer meeting space for local community groups. Check with your branch to see if you can host your club meetings at the YMCA.
May 2012 Activities Schedule
BINGO-Come enjoy a fun time with other active older adults. Bingo is played in a variety of ways, (straight, Texas T, blackout, as well as many others). Practical prizes are offered. All participants are asked to bring a snack, that can be shared with all participants. You will enjoy the game, the food, but most of all the socialization with fellow active older adults. Bingo is held on a specified Friday, at 12:30 pm.
POT LUCK-We have two pot lucks per month. The theme will vary from pot luck to pot luck, (Italian, Mexican, casseroles, and many others). Participants are asked to bring a covered dish, that follows the theme, as well as desserts. You will enjoy the food and socialization with fellow active older adults. Pot Lucks are held every other Friday, at 12:30 pm.
QUILT CLUB-The quilt club meets once per month. Our quilters are currently working on a variety of projects. Lap blankets for local nursing home residents, baby blankets for the local children’s hospital. In addition to these community service projects, the quilters work on one big quilt, that will be raffled off in November. Tickets are sold for $1 each, all proceeds go to our Step Up For Kids Campaign. The Quilt Club meets the second Tuesday, of each month, at 10 am.
AOA COMMITTEE-This committee is comprised of active older adults, who want to make our YMCA a welcome place for active older adults, and community members. The committee meets once per month, and assists the AOA Coordinator with decisions on the monthly AOA calendar. Anyone who would like to find out more about this committee is welcome to attend the monthly meeting. The AOA Committee meets the second Wednesday, of each month, at 10:30 am.
NEW MEMBER BREAKFAST-Come enjoy a free breakfast, meet some of our current AOA members, learn about the AOA programs at Northwest YMCA. If you are a new member and have not attended a new member breakfast, you are welcome to attend. We want you to be informed of your membership benefits, meet new people, learn how the YMCA can be a part of your life, and how you can be a part of the YMCA. New Member Breakfasts are held every three to four months, on a specified Friday, at 9:30 am.
BOOK CLUB-Avid readers, this is the place for you. Each month a book is selected for your reading enjoyment. At the next meeting, the book is discussed, so that a variety of views are explored. Enjoy outings to book signings, and the socialization with fellow active older adults. The Book Club meets the third Tuesday, of each month, at 12:30 pm
GAME DAY-Get your game on! Each month a game is selected to be played, (Skipbo, Wahoo, dominos, etc.). If you have a favorite game you would like to play, let us know, and we will get it on the calendar. You will have a great time playing games, and socializing with fellow active older adults.
WINSTAR TRIP-If you enjoy playing the slots, this is the trip for you. Join your fellow active older adults, for a one hour bus ride, to Oklahoma. You will spend the day at the Winstar World Casino. Bring enough money for breakfast and lunch, the buffet is amazing. Please check the AOA Activity calendar monthly. Trips are planned on the last Wednesday of the month, leaving at 8:15 am, and arriving back around 5:00 pm.
CLASSIC MOVIE THEATER-Enjoy watching movies, both current and older films, in the company of your fellow active older adults. Our AOA Committee selects the movie for each month. Movies are shown on a specified Friday, each month, at 12:30 pm.
