From traditional aerobics to danced-based classes, the YMCA offers a variety of classes to engage those who want to get their workout in a social, group format. Classes available at the Airport Area YMCA are listed below.
Group Exercise Schedule, effective January 29, 2010
Y STEP
A cardio workout for all levels, utilizing a variety of STEP aerobics moves using STEP Reebok bench and motivating music.
Low to Go
A class for all fitness levels that concentrates on fundamentals of step, low-impact aerobics and muscle conditioning. This is a great class for beginners.
Muscle Mix
Challenging weight training class targeted to strengthen and tone all major muscle groups including abdominals (no aerobics).
Y Yoga
Learn various posture breathing exercises and relaxation techniques while increasing flexibility and muscle tone.
Y Pilates
A Pilates mat workout that strengthens and tones core muscles, improves posture and provides flexibility and balance.
Y Cycle
Come join us for the ride of your life! These 60-minute indoor cycling classes will increase your cardiovascular fitness level, increase your strength, and shape you up as you enjoy the ride!
A.B.S.
Look for this Abs, Back and Stretch class combined with some of our regular classes. Guaranteed to strengthen your core fast!
Active Older Adult (AOA) Fitness
This class utilizes a variety of materials to increase muscular strength, endurance and overall coordination and balance. The format is very similar to SilverSneakers I except no music is used.
SilverSneakers® Fitness Program
These classes are especially for our senior population! Exercises include work for all major and minor muscle groups addressing strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, balance, coordination, agility, speed and skills for daily living. Hand weights, bands, balls, and a chair for seated/standing support are used in each class.
SilverSneakers® I --- Muscular Strength & Range of Movement
A low-impact chair-exercise class that improves strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, balance, coordination and more! This class uses weights, balls and bands.
SilverSneakers® II --- Cardio Circuit
An advanced group-exercise class designed for SilverSneakers participants who have expressed a desire for more cardiovascular and muscular-endurance conditioning and have experience with exercise activities requiring advanced levels of agility, balance and coordination.
SilverSneakers® YogaStretch
YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.
